Euro-Nymphing Without Breaking the Bank” with Tim Flagler

Tim Flagler is well known for his fly tying videos throughout the world and his articles in Fly Tyer Magazine. Tim will present—Euro-Nymphing – from the basics to advanced techniques. His presentation will illustrate how to get started by converting a standard trout rod, say, a 9’ 5 weight into a functional Euro-Nymphing set-up and the multiple steps that can be taken after that to produce an advanced outfit. The presentation will cover not only equipment, but flies, and on-stream strategies and techniques as well. This is a great opportunity to learn how to get started in Euro-Nymphing and use the equipment you currently own. No need to create a Go Fund Me account to buy new equipment.

February Monthly Meeting

Nick Raftas

Nick Raftas – Smallmouth on the Susquehanna & Juniata February 11, 2021 at 7:30PM via Zoom

Nick Raftas is the owner of Wild East Outfitters which is an Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guide Service offering guide services in eastern and central Pennsylvania. They have 5 guides offering float trips on the Lehigh River, Susquehanna River, Juniata River and some other float trip options for those looking to fish some lesser known waters available to the boat angler. Their drift boat guide season is split between the Lehigh, which is a trout river, and the Susquehanna & Juniata which are both smallmouth bass fisheries. The Lehigh guide season typically runs from March until late June and then resumes in late September and fishes good through the winter where they target some of the larger fish on big articulated streamers. The smallmouth bass season typically runs from July until late September.

The Juniata River or the “Big J” is one of the largest tributaries to the Susquehanna River. The main target species on the Juniata are smallmouth bass and musky. The Juniata as a smallmouth bass fishery closely rivals that of the Susquehanna and the two rivers resemble each other in many ways. The river is best fished from drift boats or rafts. The Juniata season runs from roughly mid June until November. 30-80 fish days are common give or take.

The Susquehanna is the second largest river system in the U.S and arguably one of the best smallmouth bass fisheries in the country. Smallmouth bass, an often overlooked quarry provide anglers with premium opportunities for streamer fishing and vicious top water action. When PA’s waters are too warm to fish the Susquehanna is in full swing and offers incredible fishing opportunities. Join them on a float trip in one of their drift boats or rafts for some incredible fishing. The Susquehanna season runs from roughly mid June until November. 30-80 fish days are common give or take.
