This year again Delaware Valley Fly Fishers is pleased to announce it will participate in the Greater Philadelphia Outdoor show.
Again this year Delaware Valley Fly Fishers will have a booth where our members will tie flies in front of the guests. For the club, this is a fundraiser as we sell flies people have made. Also we also we use this a a recruiting time. Many attenders are fascinated by the flies.
The club will be looking for volunteers to help man the booth. Details will be forthcoming.
The annual fly fishing show will be held at the Garden State Expo center in Somerset NJ January 29 through the 31. We are lucking to have one of the premier shows not too far from our club. Many well skilled fly tiers will be in attendance. In addition to the fly tiers equipment, and fly tying materials are also for sale. A member picked up 12 peacock swords for $5.00 one year. Some suppliers may have good deals on supplies for fly tying. This is a great time to stock up on tying supplies or get anything you need. . Hackle is prevalent there with one of the premier hackle suppliers usually present.
In addition to the supplies, there is also classes and seminars every day the show is open. These are from some of the most premier fly tiers and or fly fishers in the country. Anyone who attends will be amazed at the amount of fly tying experience at this event.
Some members are interested in carpooling. So if anyone is interested contact your fellow members.
Join us Wednesday June 24 at 7:30 pm for our annual pizza party. At this meeting, we will be have beverages and pizza with various toppings. We will be discussing how our fishing is going so far and upcoming events. This usually is one of our more interesting meetings as we do not have a specific presenter and talk about fishing in general.
Our main attraction for the June meeting is the award of a fly rod in our members raffle. This year the prize is a Cabela’s Three Forks fly rod, 7’-6” in length, 3 weight of three-piece construction. This is a great rod for fishing small mountain streams and brooks. This raffle, for members only, is based on attendance during the past year. Therefore, the more meetings you attend the more entries you have, thus increasing your odds of winning.
Delaware Valley fly fishers meets the fourth Wednesday of each month. Each meeting begins at 7:30 PM, after a short business meeting, there normally is a featured guest speaker with a presentation on fly fishing. Our meetings are held at the Yardley Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
The address is1444 Yardley Newton Rd Yardley, Pennsylvania 19067-4044
On hand will be a fine selection of fresh hot pizzas with each of the top favorite toppings as were voted on during the by-law review last month. As if this wasn’t enough, the Club will also hold the Fly Rod Raffle. This year’s prize is a very fine TFO Lefty Kreh Professional Series 9 ft, 4 wt, four-piece rod guaranteed to put a smile on the face of the raffle winner.
June is a relaxed, light-hearted meeting and an excellent time to make summer trip plans with your fellow club members. We hope you can join us – and we hope you can bring a friend.
April is an exciting month for the Delaware Valley Fly Fishers Club. The season has opened for local trout waters (and bass are now catch and release only for the duration of their breeding season). We will be holding our regular meeting later this month where, along with our guest speaker, there will no doubt be plenty of stories and photos of our early season catch. The Club will also be holding its “On-Water” fly fishing class along the banks of the Little Lehigh. More on these to come!
April marks the time of year when fly fishers buzz with activity around here – and the Delaware Valley Fly Fishers Club makes for a pretty good place to learn the tips, tricks, and insight of local waters to make the most of your angling season ahead.
With that in mind – I’ll be keeping this post short so I can go out and get my line in the water, but I’ll leave you first with this thought: When you find yourself elbow to elbow with other anglers please encourage them to visit our Club. Membership growth is the ONLY way we can continue to make our fine programs available, so put a few of your Club business cards in your vest and hand them out with a smile and an invitation.
Much of what the Delaware Valley Fly Fishers has to offer has been nicely summarized by one of our founding members, and Executive Director, Jerry Girard Sr. Please enjoy this brief message from Jerry, and share the Delaware Valley Fly Fishers’ message with others to help build our membership ranks.
